What: Gulfport Summer Camps

When: June 5 – July 28, 7am – 6pm

Where: Various

Info: The Summer Camp Program will be held amid an ever changing coastal environment and different living conditions. We have made several changes to our program for this summer as a convenience and service to parents and families in Gulfport. With reduced weekly fees and variations in the age classifications at some of our camp sites we hope to improve your child’s ability to gain a positive summer experience.

The Gulfport Department of Leisure Services has historically operated the largest municipal summer program in the State of Mississippi. Each year our highly trained and certified staff provides over 700 children with top quality childcare in a summer camp environment. Gulfport’s summer program is fully licensed by the Mississippi State Health Department. Each staff member undergoes extensive training by both our department and the State Licensing agency. Each staff member is also certified in CPR and Standard First Aid, and has experience in the childcare/education field.

Summer activities include field trips each week, guest speakers, swimming, sports, arts & crafts, and many other exciting and creative events. The Gulfport Department of Leisure Services is committed to providing children with a meaningful educational, social and recreational summer experience at minimal cost for the parent or guardian. We have made several changes to the program that we feel will increase convenience for parents and still provide your child with a memorable summer experience.

We anticipate this year’s program to be even more successful than the last, and look forward to working with you and your children.

Young marine enthusiasts will be captivated by a week of fun and exploration! We are excited to introduce a newly renovated summer camp program in 2017. In addition to offering our regular age group camps, we will be alternating theme topics and activities on odd and even camp weeks. This will give you the option to choose multiple weeks of participation in camps while allowing your child(ren) to experience different activities with multiple week attendance. Field trips will remain consistent on a weekly basis and include Gulfport beach, Ship Island, Shrimp boat tour, Splash pad, pontoon boat cruise, Kayaking, Fishing, & Dolphin photo ID trips each dependent upon the age appropriate class.

After a successful first-run of “Dolphin Camp” for ages 15-17, we are pleased to continue offering this camp for older students interested in marine science. New to this program will be the inclusion of a hands-on experience where you will have the opportunity to touch one of our resident dolphins. Space is limited, so register early to guarantee a place in camp. Age 5 campers will also be adding an additional field trip which will take them on a pontoon boat ride where they will explore local plants and animals.

2017 also brings the introduction of an Angler Fishing camp for ages 8-9 and 10-14 to summer camp. This camp is geared to campers interested in fishing. Students will learn about the different types of fish living in our waters, how to throw a cast net, how to string & rig a fishing pole, and of course do lots of fishing. Fishing field trips will include our pontoon boat, Gulfport beach, and Ship Island.

A $30 non-refundable deposit is required to register for any camp. 228-896-9182 ext. 1770.
